Product Description
Brass Oval Caged Bulkhead Ship Light. Fitted with it’s original 240V E27 brass lamp holder. This ship light is of solid brass construction with a rough cast appearance and aged glass cover. The reflector surface has been painted gloss white as a rudimentary clean and polish.
Salvaged from the massive 1950’s era ship breaking yards in Bangladesh.
Fit to walls or ceilings using the four mountings that are bolted into position. Powered by conduit connection and so some fiddling with elbows may be required for a clean installation. Connect to external mounted conduit for an authentic look using brass plumbing fittings and copper pipe. We suggest brass or copper water pipe fittings to match the look and feel.
This solid brass ship light is designed to be secured directly to the ceiling in areas where there is no height for a pendant. This is an original ships component with an original E27 lamp holder attached internally. An earth should probably be install into the case of the light if running at mains voltage.
The two wingnuts undo to provide a hinge for the brass cage which had a rubber sealed glass dome in thick old glass. Bulbs are replaced through this front hinged cage. These were originally stamped IP64 but re polishing has removed the mark. We would consider these to be IP Rated however careful installation is required to achieve this.
Warranty
Since these are vintage ships lighting salvaged from ship breaking these do not come with any warranty. If you do experience a problem we may be able to assist with parts.
Vintage ship lighting
Ship breaking or ship demolition is a type of ship disposal involving the breaking up of ships for scrap recycling. Most ships have a lifespan of a few decades before there is so much wear that refitting and repair become uneconomical. Ship breaking allows materials from the ship, especially steel, to be recycled. Equipment on board the vessel can also be reused.
This is a great way to obtain the highest quality solid brass lighting components for use in industrial style design. All lamp parts show their age in a wonderful polished patina, some have more marks than others but all are acceptable wear for age given these are from Japanese ship building made after the war.
We have a number of these that are matching designs but we cannot guarantee they will be available once they are sold.
This will fit a number of different bulbs if required.
