Brass Ships Round Cage Bulkhead Light.  Retrofitted for use as 240V E27 brass fitting. This is of solid brass construction with a rough cast appearance and aged glass cover.  Salvaged from the massive 1950’s era ship breaking yards in India.

Fit to walls or ceilings using the four mountings that are bolted into position. Powered  by conduit connection and so some fiddling with elbows may be required for a clean installation. They can be connected to external mounted conduit for an authentic look using brass plumbing fittings and copper pipe. Multiple bulkhead lights can be fitted in series as some have two conduit holes on the cable service box.

The four wingnuts/knobs when undone provide a hinge for the brass cage which had a rubber sealed glass dome in thick old glass. Bulbs are replaced through this front hinged cage. This bulkhead light is a reasonable 4.3 kilos of solid polished old brass with a patina from years at sea. Reflector surface inside the light is a result of polishing the inside of the cast brass base.

These were originally stamped IP64 but re polishing has removed the mark. They would be considered by us to be IP Rated with careful attention when installing however.

Vintage ship lighting

Ship breaking or ship demolition is a type of ship disposal involving the breaking up of ships for scrap recycling. Most ships have a lifespan of a few decades before there is so much wear that refitting and repair become uneconomical. Ship breaking allows materials from the ship, especially metal, to be recycled. Equipment on board the vessel can also be reused.

This is a great way to obtain the highest quality solid brass lighting components for use in industrial style design. All lamp parts show their age in a wonderful polished patina, some have more marks than others but all are acceptable wear for age.

Comes complete fitted with a 4 AMP threaded entry E27 Brass Lamp holder  with internal earth connection.

Bulb not included. Requires a GLS sized E27 globe either vintage or LED.
